Teaching

My goal is to foster an anti-racist, just, and liberatory classroom filled with music-making, collaboration, and critical thinking and listening. I am intentional about disrupting the white supremacy that is pervasive in music studies through curriculum reform, citational practices, and dismantling hierarchies in the classroom and in knowledge production.

In addition to completing certificate programs in higher education pedagogy through the University of Toronto’s Centre for Teaching Support & Innovation and George Brown College, I trained and mentored graduate student teaching assistants and instructors at the University of Toronto. I have presented on pedagogical topics at national and international conferences. During the 2017-2018 school year, I was a Wimmer Faculty Fellow, working closely with the Eberly Center to revise Music History III.

What I’m teaching at CMU in 2024-2025:

  • World Music (Fall 2024)
  • Music Since 1945 (Fall 2024)
  • Music History 3 (Spring 2025)
  • unconfirmed: Contemporary Soundscapes (Spring 2025)
